The problem

Wet signatures require a printer. Stylus signatures produce shoddy scrawls. DocuSign is built for corporate contracts, not for inventors who need to sign one declaration.

Meanwhile, the USPTO has, since 2004, accepted S-signatures — a name typed between two forward slashes. Every patent office in the world would accept it. The tooling just hadn’t caught up.

How it works

01

Pick a template.

Maintain a library of declarations, assignments, and combined forms. Insert placeholders once; reuse forever.

02

Send a link.

Each inventor gets a URL. They confirm their email, read the document, and type their S-signature. No accounts. No apps to install.

03

Export the PDF.

Download the signed document with a complete audit log — timestamps, IPs, browser, attestation. Ready to file.

Return on investment

You’re not buying signature software. You’re buying attorney time back.

Saved per application

10 min

Applications per year

1,000

Hours reclaimed

167 hrs

Ten minutes is a conservative estimate. It doesn’t count the second follow-up email, the DocuSign account the inventor doesn’t have, the scanner that isn’t working, or the paralegal explaining, again, how to drag the signature block.

At a modest $150/hour loaded labor cost, 167 hours is $25,050 back into billable work each year — many times the price of the software.

Scale it to your firm. 2,500 applications a year returns roughly 417 hours. 5,000 returns 833. The customer isn’t purchasing electronic signatures — they’re purchasing attorney and paralegal time.

Built for 37 C.F.R. § 1.4(d)

Every requirement of the S-signature rule is enforced by the workflow, not left to the signer.

§ 1.4(d)(2)(i)
Syntax — letters, spaces, and permitted punctuation between two forward slashes — is validated as it’s typed.
§ 1.4(d)(2)(iii)
The signer’s typed name is presented adjacent to the S-signature by layout — not by hoping the signer types it correctly.
§ 1.4(d)(5)(ii)
A verified email, an accepted attestation, IP address, browser, and precise timestamps are captured — immutably — for every step of the signing workflow.

This is not legal advice. Users should obtain approval from their own counsel before using the product.
